Pure Power Picks Thoughts in this Market
PAY ATTENTION! $5700 SPX / SPY 570 is now where everyone wants to buy. However, you know you should not chase. Some will… and most likely those that chase may have tried to short this recent rip and are now flipping to long. Likely there will be sells at this level to hurt chasers who will likely sell when the market moves back to 550 zone. This should happen before the market can move up. It’s natural price action. Might take a couple weeks, might be quick, might take a month. But likely this will happen. So prepare for that, and wait for strong entries rather than chasing!!! However, this is just an idea. Anything can happen, including market continuing up. But we have this in our thoughts.
Looking back at last week…
Monday: A Quiet Start to the Week
Markets kicked things off in a holding pattern. The S&P 500 ticked up 0.1%, the Dow added 0.3%, and the Nasdaq slipped just a hair. Investors were playing it cool ahead of some big earnings reports and economic data later in the week.
Tuesday: Earnings Push Markets Higher
Solid earnings from companies like UPS and GM gave markets a boost. The S&P 500 climbed 0.6%, the Dow rose 0.7%, and the Nasdaq added 0.5%. Still, a few CEOs flagged trade tensions as something to keep an eye on going forward.
Wednesday: Dow Stays Hot, Nasdaq Pauses
The Dow locked in its seventh straight day of gains, rising 0.3%. The S&P 500 followed with a 0.2% bump, while the Nasdaq dipped 0.1%. Investors digested a slight GDP slowdown but kept the focus on earnings and what’s ahead.
Thursday: Tech Takes the Spotlight
Big-name tech crushed it—Microsoft and Meta posted strong earnings, sending the Nasdaq up 1.5%. The S&P 500 added 0.6% and the Dow ticked up 0.2%. Solid results from the tech giants helped ease some of the nerves around global trade.
Friday: Strong Finish Thanks to Jobs & Trade Hopes
Markets closed out the week on a high note. A solid jobs report and signs of progress on U.S.-China trade helped the S&P 500 and Nasdaq jump 1.5%, while the Dow climbed 1.4%. Nearly 90% of stocks in the S&P finished higher—definitely a feel-good Friday.
Takeaway
This week had a little bit of everything—steady earnings, a solid job market, and some relief on the trade front. While there’s still uncertainty in the background, the market held up well. Optimism isn’t off the charts, but it’s definitely hanging in there.
