Brief Overview

Welcome back to this week’s Stocks to Watch!

We’re coming into the last week of August and the markets are heating up! Will we see this action keep up into September? A few noteworthy names like PDD, TIGR, SNOW, CRWD, DG, AFRM, BABA & The King NVDA scheduled to report earnings this week.

Looking back at last week…

Monday: Markets Hold Steady Ahead of Jackson Hole
The week began with markets mostly flat. Futures were slightly lower, and major indexes like the S&P 500 and Dow closed just under 0.1% lower. Investors seemed cautious, waiting for insights from the Fed’s annual Jackson Hole symposium.

Tuesday: Digestion Day Before Key Federal Event
Trading was calm as traders waited for signals from Fed Chair Powell later in the week. The week’s early momentum paused, but sentiment remained supportive with markets staying near all-time highs.

Wednesday: Weekly Gains Build on Rate-Cut Hopes
Stocks pushed higher, with small-cap names enjoying standout gains. The S&P 500 rose nearly 1%, small caps surged about 3%, and total market optimism was buoyed by growing confidence that Fed easing is on the way.

Thursday: Waiting for Powell, Markets Plateau
Markets were solid but quiet heading into Friday. While trade and earnings tuned the noise down, investors held their breath for Powell’s remarks to potentially shift advice on rate cuts. Quiet flows through the midweek showed a “wait-and-see” mood.

Friday: Powell’s Rate-Cut Hints Spark Rally
Friday was a standout—markets surged after Powell signaled a possible rate cut in September. The Dow broke records with an 846-point gain (about +1.9%), while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq climbed around 1.5–1.9%. Treasury yields fell, and defensive sectors jumped as bond investors cheered the dovish shift.

Key Takeaway
It was a solid, confidence-building week. Markets tread water leading up to the Fed’s big event, then rallied sharply as Powell loosened the Fed’s tone. With inflation easing and rate-cut expectations rising, investors seem ready to ride the summer rally—while staying tuned for CPI and employment data next week.
