Brief Overview

Welcome back to this week’s Stocks to Watch!

We hope your weekend is going well! We’re ready to get back to the action with some notable names scheduled to report earnings this week like GIS, MU, NKE, FDX, BB & CCL. We’ll also get employment number as well as CPI reports this week so be sure to check out the Fed Calendar below as well.

Looking back at last week…

Monday: Pullback After Record Highs
Markets pulled back from recent record levels. The S&P 500 slipped about 0.3%, the Dow eased roughly 0.4%, and the Nasdaq drifted lower. Investors took a pause after strong rallies earlier in the month, with leadership slightly rotating out of mega-cap growth names.

Tuesday: Risk Appetite Returns
Stocks climbed as the market warmed back up. The S&P 500 and Dow regained some ground while Nasdaq’s gains were more modest. Optimism around the Federal Reserve’s upcoming rate decision and continued resilience in consumer sentiment supported the rebound from Monday’s dip.

Wednesday: Fed Cuts Rates, Stocks Rally
The Federal Reserve delivered its final rate cut of the year, lowering the benchmark rate by 0.25%. That bolstered confidence across the market: the Dow jumped nearly 1.1%, the S&P 500 climbed about 0.7%, and the Nasdaq added around 0.3%. Investors interpreted the cut as supportive for risk assets heading into year-end.

Thursday: Record Lows & Highs—A Mixed Picture
Major indexes diverged. The Dow and S&P 500 closed at record highs, while the Nasdaq lagged, pressured by weaker tech forecasts from a few big names. Broader market sentiment was still constructive, but tech caution showed up in the numbers.

Friday: Tech Weakness Caps the Week
Stocks finished the week with some softness. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq slipped as tech shares faced renewed selling pressure, while the Dow held nearer its highs. Sector rotation continued, with consumer and value-oriented names outperforming some growth categories.

Key Takeaway: Market of Two Halves:
Early-week weakness gave way to a strong midweek rally after the Fed cut rates, only to see tech stocks pull back into the weekend. Broad indexes like the S&P 500 and Dow still flirted with highs, but tech’s recent setback reminds traders that leadership can shift quickly. As we head into mid-December with key economic data still delayed from earlier disruptions, the focus will stay on rate expectations and earnings momentum.
