Brief Overview

Welcome back to this week’s Stocks to Watch!

We hope you are all having a great weekend! We’re back in the thick of earnings season with top names like PLTR, AMD, GOOGL & AMZN scheduled to report this week. We’ll also get employment and wages numbers on Thursday and Friday.

Looking back at last week…

Monday: Strong Early Week as Earnings Roll In
Stocks started the week on a positive note. The S&P 500 even brushed near the 7,000 level early, lifted by a batch of solid earnings and optimism around future corporate gains — especially from big tech names. Energy also helped the upside as oil prices climbed.

Tuesday: Record Close Then a Pullback
The S&P 500 marked another record closing high midweek, though the broad market wasn’t uniform. Some sectors — like health care — lagged after disappointing news, while stocks like General Motors rallied on stronger earnings. The Dow dipped as mixed earnings pressure weighed.

Wednesday: Nasdaq and Tech Drift Lower
Tech shares rotated lower as some software and AI names pulled back. The Nasdaq underperformed typical leaders while broader indexes held relatively steady. Volatility ticked up as traders weighed earnings against valuation concerns.

Thursday: Sluggish Close as Warsh Appointment Looms
Stocks drifted toward the end of the week as markets digested the news that Kevin Warsh was tapped as the next Fed chair. A stronger dollar and rising Treasury yields pressured precious metals and contributed to mixed sentiment in equities.

Friday: Week Ends Lower on Policy Uncertainty
U.S. benchmarks finished the week in the red. The S&P 500, Dow, and Nasdaq all closed lower as investors reflected on the Fed chair pick, rising yields, and soft execution in tech earnings. Precious metals dropped sharply from recent highs. The Russell 2000 also posted notable weakness among smaller companies.

Key Takeaway:
It was a mixed week with early strength giving way to caution. Corporate earnings boosted confidence early, even nudging indexes toward record territory. But conversation around monetary policy — especially the Fed leadership change — alongside higher yields and a firmer dollar brought sentiment back toward neutral by Friday. January still ended with modest gains for the S&P 500, though broader leadership was uneven and small-cap momentum cooled.
